About Icetrek

Subheading for description or instructions

ICETREK Iceland is a premier tour operator specializing in trekking adventures and authentic Icelandic experiences. During the summer season, we organize multi-day trekking adventures through Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes, immersing you in the raw beauty of the highlands. We offer day tours and highland tours for individuals and small groups.

In winter, we shift our focus to the night sky, chasing the magical Northern Lights for an unforgettable experience under the stars.
Our team of local guides are skilled travelers with deep knowledge of the land, its history, and its hidden treasures. With ICETREK, every journey is led by experts passionate about sharing the wonders of Iceland with you.

Experience the best of Iceland with our personalized, guided tours, designed for small groups and individuals seeking an unforgettable adventure. Operating from the town Kirkjubæjarklaustur on Iceland’s South Coast, our Highland base at Hólaskjól Highland Centre, and Reykjavík City, we offer a range of private tours that cater to both the highlands and the lowlands.

What We Do

ICETREK offers guided trekking tours, private custom tours, and day tours that explore Iceland’s most spectacular and less-visited regions.
During the summer, we focus on highland trekking and adventure travel. In winter, ICETREK transforms into a Northern Lights tour operator, taking guests to remote locations for the best aurora experiences.

Our guides and drivers share the same passion for Icelandic nature and the adventure lifestyle. We are willing to go the extra mile — or a hundred — to show our guests the best of Iceland’s untouched wilderness.

We love long trekking routes, true expeditions, and the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere — that’s where ICETREK feels most at home.

Our Mission & Values

At ICETREK, our mission is to lead meaningful journeys into Iceland’s extraordinary wilderness — safely, respectfully, and authentically.

We believe that adventure is more than reaching a destination. It is a connection: to the land, to its stories, and to the people who have shaped life on this island for centuries.

Safety First, Always

Icelandic nature is powerful, fragile, and ever-changing. Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Every tour is led by experienced local guides who understand the land, the weather, and the responsibility that comes with exploring the Highlands.

Respect for Nature

The Highlands are our playground — but they are also a place that teaches humility. We travel with deep respect for the environment, adapting each day to nature’s conditions and minimizing our footprint in these remote, untouched landscapes.

Honoring Icelandic Heritage

Our journeys are rooted in culture as much as scenery. We share the stories of farmers, shepherds, and travelers who once crossed these same routes and stayed in the same mountain huts we use today. Through these narratives, guests experience the resilience, history, and spirit behind the landscapes.

Beyond the Main Routes

We design trips that go farther and deeper than typical tourist paths. Small groups, 4×4 travel, and remote trails allow us to reach hidden valleys, lava deserts, and geothermal wonders — places known intimately by our guides.

Real Connection, Real Experience

We believe travel should feel personal, genuine, and unrushed. Our guides are storytellers, photographers, and explorers who love sharing their knowledge of geology, folklore, and local life. Guests don’t just see Iceland — they feel its soul.

Nóni

Nóni

Our logistic and inventory manager. Nóni takes care of the logistics tasks. He plans the purchasing of food for the tours and oversees the inventory. All operators of trekking tour need a Nóni. The only problem is that there has only one copy of this guy been made.

Nóni is responsible for our camp setups. He backs up the cooking, handles the support vehicles as well as the transport of gear and luggage between the huts and campsites and in between he drives the 4×4 trucks.

Trekking Is a Lifestyle

Trekking is more than just enjoying the scenery — it’s a way of life. It’s about feeling good even when the weather is harsh and the days are long. It’s about finding your way from A to B, even when there’s no trail to follow and the visibility is poor.

It’s about adapting to the ever-changing Icelandic nature — and finding joy in simply being there. It’s about embracing the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, learning to watch the emptiness, and listening to the silence.

It’s about the group — the companionship on the trail, the shared effort, and those good moments together at the end of the day.

It’s about sharing the happiness of being out there, surrounded by wilderness, and realizing that when the journey ends, you’re already thinking about the next one — perhaps longer, harder, and more ambitious.

Expeditions bring challenges — and we welcome them.

Food on Our Trekking Tours

We believe that good food is an essential part of the experience — something that creates memories just like the journey itself. After a long day on the trail, a warm and satisfying meal shared with fellow travelers becomes one of the highlights of the day.

On our trekking tours, we focus on simple but high-quality meals made from wholesome ingredients that provide both energy and comfort. We prepare dishes that fit the rhythm of life in the Highlands — nutritious breakfasts, hearty soups, traditional Icelandic stews, and fresh local ingredients whenever possible.

We also love to include Icelandic specialties that reflect the areas we travel through, connecting the food to the landscape and culture around us. This might be locally sourced lamb, Arctic char from nearby rivers, or traditional rye bread baked in geothermal heat.

For us, food is more than fuel — it’s part of the adventure. It brings people together, warms the body, and deepens the sense of place that makes every ICETREK journey unforgettable.
