Five-day trekking adventure with four to five active hiking days, depending on the chosen route on the final day in Thorsmork. The journey begins in Reykjavík, with a scenic drive to Landmannalaugar, where the trek starts.
This is a hut-to-hut trekking tour. The first night will be in the hut at Landmannalaugar. The second night will be in the hut at Lake Álftavatn and the third one at Emstrur hut. The last night in Thorsmork will be at Basar hut. On the last day, there are several great hiking options in Thorsmork before returning to Reykjavík.
The trek is fully supported, with luggage transported between huts and an experienced English-speaking guide leading the group.
Our group size typically ranges from 4 to 10 people, ensuring an intimate and personalized experience. We use our own vehicles for transportation, making the journey to and from the hike an integral part of the adventure. Along the way, we make scenic stops, turning the journey itself into a memorable experience.
After signing up on the tour the guide will contact group members to give advice and support the preparation. There will be an online meeting with group and the guide at some time point.

The tour begins in Reykjavík, with pickup from your hotel or designated bus stop starting at 8:30 AM. Ahead lies a scenic road trip as we travel from the South Coast into the Icelandic Highlands toward Landmannalaugar.
Along the way, we make several beautiful stops — including the Hjálparfoss waterfall, Sigöldugljúfur canyon, and the volcanic crater lakes Hnausapollur and Frostastaðaháls, surrounded by striking lava fields and colorful landscapes.
We expect to arrive in Landmannalaugar around 1:00 PM. We will have lunch and then we’ll head out for a warm-up hike through the Laugahraun lava field, continuing to the summit of Bláfell (about 10 km round trip). The views from the top are spectacular and offer a perfect introduction to the Icelandic Highlands.
After the hike, we’ll relax in the natural geothermal pool at Landmannalaugar — the perfect way to end the first day before gathering for dinner.
Facility at Landmannalaugar: We stay in Mountain hut in shared accommodation. Access to water toilets. Drinkable water. Hot showers (per shower 1.100 ISK / 8 EUR not included in the tour). There is a store in Landmannalaugar it is possible to buy coffee, tea or soft drinks and snacks.

The day starts with breakfast and during breakfast the trekkers will prepare a lunch pack for the day. The trekkers carry what they need for the day in their day pack. We need to bring on the days trek, a snack and lunch for the hike and extra clothes. Everything else will be transferred by 4×4 vehicle to the next camp site.
The trek starts with a trek through the Laugahraun Lava to the mountain Brennisteinsalda We will observe bubbling rivers, geothermal hot springs, beautiful lava, and colorful mountains on way as the group hike to Hrafntinnusker in 1100 meters above sea level. The view from there is fantastic if offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding volcanic landscape and nearby glaciers.
The area is also known for its abundance of obsidian, a black volcanic glass formed from rapidly cooled lava.
Hrafntinnusker is situated approximately halfway between Landmannalaugar and Álftavatn where we end this day. From there we begin descending to Lake Álftavatn where we camp over the night. There is a toilet facility at Hrafntinnusker (dry tolet)
On this trail there is one river we must cross and some river wading shoes are needed.

The day starts with breakfast and preparation of lunch and snack for the day hike. We begin the trek viewing the Lake Álftavatn. The lake lies in the heart of the Icelandic Highlands, surrounded by breathtaking volcanic landscapes. Lake Álftavatn is known for its stunning natural beauty, with crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains and lava fields. We will enjoy different landscape rest of this day as we hike onto the Mælifellssandur with the black sand around us green hills in the background and good view on the magnificent glacier Mýrdalsjökull where the volcano Katla is resting. On this day we will have the opportunity to see Markarfjótsgljufur canyon.
We spent the night in the hut at Emstrur where we will have dinner and short walk in the evening to take a look at nearby canyon.

After breakfast and preparation for the day we set of too Thórsmörk wallay. This part of the hike offers breathtaking views of volcanic landscapes, lush valleys, and glacier-carved mountains. Highlights include the rugged beauty of the Thórsmörk valley itself, with its birch forests surrounded by glaciers.
Facility at Básar cabin: Spacious cabin with good cooking facility and mutual room to have dinner and relax. We sleep in dorm. Water toilet and electricity, Drinkable water. Hot showers (showers are included).

This day we wake up in our camp in a natural birch forest in Básar in the Thorsmörk valley. We will have breakfast and then we will go on a hike to one of the surrounding peaks. From there we have panoramic views of glaciers, including Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, as well as the surrounding valleys and mountains of the Thórsmörk. After the hike there will be lunch in the hut, before we start traveling in our 4×4 truck to the main road and to Reykjavík city. Estimated arrival to Reykjavík where the traveler will be dropped of at their hotels is between 17:00 to 18:00. Hike in the Stakkholtsgjá canyon is an option they way back from Thorsmork and sightseeing stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss.

Supported trek / Luggage transfer
Luggage transfers are provided, ensuring a more comfortable hiking experience so you only must carry what you need for the day. Participants are required to carry only a compact day backpack containing essentials such as lunch, a water bottle, medication, sunglasses, river crossing shoes, rain gear, and any additional clothing or items needed for the day.
Difficulty Level
The Laugavegur Trek is graded moderate to challenging, suitable for trekkers with good general fitness and previous hiking experience. Daily elevation gains range from 300–600 meters, and most hiking days cover 12–15 km, with one long and demanding day of approximately 25 km from Landmannalaugar to Álftavatn.
The itinerary includes five active trekking days, often across uneven trails, geothermal areas, river crossings, and exposed highland terrain. Trekkers must be capable of hiking a full day with a light daypack, while their main luggage is transported between huts.
Proper highland equipment is essential. Participants must wear sturdy hiking boots and carry weather-protective clothing suitable for Iceland’s rapidly changing conditions, including wind, rain, and cold temperatures.
This is a supported trek, meaning your baggage is transferred between huts, leaving you free to enjoy the trail with only what you need for the day.
