This six-day Highland expedition begins in Reykjavík and ventures deep into the colorful rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar, gateway to Iceland’s remote interior. Traveling by 4×4 across rugged mountain roads, we reach the pristine shores of Lake Langisjór, where the trek begins with an ascent of Sveinstindur (1,090 m / 3,576 ft). From its summit, sweeping views stretch across glaciers, lava fields, and endless Highland horizons.
Over the following days, the journey unfolds through ancient lava formations, river valleys, and dramatic volcanic landscapes shaped by some of the largest eruptions in recorded history. We traverse the vast Eldgjá Canyon, pause at the striking waterfall Ófærufoss, and trek onward to remote mountain huts surrounded by silence and wilderness.
The route continues past the serene lakes of Álftavötn, into geothermal landscapes near Strútslaug, and across the black sand plains beneath Mælifell. Far beyond the familiar Laugavegur trail, this is a true immersion into Iceland’s wild interior—raw, remote, and unforgettable.
