Discover a quieter side of Iceland on an eight-day guided Highland trekking adventure. Beginning with a hike in Þórsmörk, this journey combines remote wilderness trails with the northern section of the renowned Laugavegur Trail, finishing among Landmannalaugar’s colorful rhyolite mountains.
After our first overnight at Básar, we travel to Lake Langisjór to begin the main wilderness trek. From Sveinstindur, our route leads alongside the Skaftá river, through the unusual lava formations of Skælingar, and into Eldgjá canyon. We continue toward Strútur, pausing at the remote Strútslaug hot spring before crossing volcanic terrain to Lake Álftavatn.
The final stages take us north along Laugavegur through Hrafntinnusker’s geothermal landscapes to Landmannalaugar. A morning hike provides one last opportunity to explore before returning to Reykjavík.
This route brings you into the Southern Highlands that IceTrek knows and loves. Your local guide shares knowledge of the landscapes along the way, while luggage transfers let you hike with a daypack and settle into a mountain hut each evening.
Prefer to hike at your own pace? Explore our self-guided Laugavegur trek, with mountain hut accommodation, luggage transfers, Reykjavík transfers, a written trekking guide, and GPS data included. Guests hike independently and arrange their own meals.
